Falling for Autumn in Japan Part 1
2ND LEG: Atami -> Kyoto -> Osaka
- From Kamakura, I dropped by Yokohama again where I had some more film rolls developed and scanned, before heading to Atami for the Fireworks Display and staying there for a night. It was already dark when I arrived since I waited the whole afternoon for a few other rolls to get developed and scanned and had to return to Kamakura to pick-up my luggage.

The moon was pretty that evening so I decided to do double exposures with the moon, fireworks and city lights. At some point, I just watched the fireworks display because it was about 30 minutes long with a 5 minute break in between.
The inn where I was staying already had a view deck so I didn't have ton go to the designated place (beach) to watch the fireworks.

2. From Atami, I had to go back to Yokohama Station to ride the Shinkansen (bullet train) heading to Kyoto. I arrived in Kyoto in the afternoon and headed to To-ji Temple. It was cold, humid and cloudy. The photos was developed and scanned by a Naniwa Camera (branch) Store in Osaka.

3. I spent 2 nights in Kyoto so I had to utilize my time there. I went back to To-ji Temple for the Night Illumination. I did some double exposures for the To-ji Temple night illumination using a Olympus Pen EED on Manual Aperture mode (F1.7-F2.8) since it will not fire on Auto Mode because it was too dark for the sensor/ uncoupled light meter.

4. The next morning I decided to go to Hagashimaya Ward, the core of Kyoto (tourism).
Route:
Morning to Noon: Kiyomizu Dera -> Ninenzaka- Sannenzakka -> Maruyama Park
Noon to Evening: Teamlab Kyoto (no photos) -> Kinkakuji Temple -> Kyoto Botanical Gardens

I noticed that there was a thin line coming from my film photos taken with the Olympus Pen EED. It was caused by small defect that was sharp and scratches the film when I advance it.

Coffee Break

Walking towards Maruyama Park was wonderful.

5. Maruyama Park was a surprise. Although most of the autumn leaves already fell, there are still a few trees that have leaves and Momiji (red maple leaves). A lot of individuals and couples are there to have their photos taken in Kimonos. It was magical. Also having the Rainbow Filter v2. [Orange, Green and Purple/ Violet] was very helpful to enhance the Autumn Colors on film as the oranges and the greens are enhanced.

6. After Maruyama park I stopped by "Teamlabs Kyoto: Biovortex" but did not use my film camera. It was so busy that day that I skipped some of the attractions because there were long queues. I was supposed to go directly to Kyoto Botanical Gardens for their "Light Cycles" indoor and outdoor illumination but decided to drop by Kinkaku-ji Temple first to see its the famous gold exterior.
Was lucky to arrive during the golden hour but it was tough because the sun keeps reflecting from the gold finish.

7. Since the sun was setting early that day I had extra time to walk towards Kyoto Botanical Garden but stopped over to grab a quick bite. I didn't feel like taking photos in the night illumination since they said it was immersive and I really wanted to get a feel of it first. But come springtime, Sakura Seaason, I had the chance to revisit both TeamLabs Kyoto: Biovortex and Light Cycles (before their season closing) and was happy to take a film photos and videos of it. Outside the "Light Cycles" of Kyoto Botanical Gardens was their Autumn Illumination. Was able to take a few photos of it and since they used spotlights, I added star filters for extra effects.
8. Transit Day from Kyoto to Osaka: I booked my shinkansen ticket for noon time from Kyoto to Osaka so I can still have time to go around in the morning. I went to Fushimi Inari Taisha to take some photos. The weather was pleasant that morning, with clouds in the sky and a nice morning glow from the sun. All the orange tones of Fushimi Inari was energizing to look at.

9. Now Heading to Osaka where I will be meeting up with my sister and nephews arriving that afternoon and will be spending the last few days of my Autumn Birthday Trip with them.
Full Day 1: Osaka -> Universal Studios Japan
2nd Day: Nara -> Kyoto
3rd Day: Osaka Zoo -> Osaka Shinsekai (Tsutenkaku Tower)

COMPARING SAME CAMERA + FILTER (RAINBOW LENS V2) BUT NOW ON KODAK COLORPLUS
10. Universal Studios Japan. I used Kodak Colorplus 200 with my Rainbow Lens V2 [OGV]. Was surprised that it looked more nostalgic than my usual Kodak Ultramax and Kodak Gold

11. Osaka Tennoji Zoo. I didn't expect a lot from zoo's but this one was different, you can see almost all the animals so it was worth it.

12. Tsutenkaku Tower & Osaka Shinsekai Day at Night is so colorful. The Tsutenkaku Tower provides a really nice view, this is the second time I went and the weather was just perfect that day. I used the Rainbow Lens Filter Version 2: Green - Orange - Purple on my Olympus Pen FT and the results was so lovely.

For the night shots I used Star and Swirl Lens filters to play with the lights.
AND THAT CONCLUDES MY 2025 JAPAN B-DAY AUTUMN (FALL-WINTER) TRIP ON FILM.
Thank you for reading and may God bless us all.
